Healthy Neighborhoods releases COVID-19 resources and call to action.

In this time of stress and uncertainty we need each other more than ever. We recognize that the COVID-19 crisis has impacted our neighbors in many ways, including their health and wellbeing, jobs and income, and ability to pay rent and find food. We remain dedicated to acting with compassion and solidarity to build upon the strengths of our community and find practical solutions that help all neighbors overcome the evolving crisis.

Healthy Neighborhoods releases philosophy on property taxes for new development.

Healthy Neighborhoods recognizes the importance of public and private investments for transformed tree streets. To reach the vision of the Tree Streets articulated in the Growing our Tree Streets Transformation Plan, private investment will need to be matched by public investments funded through tax payer dollars. It’s important every development of lots in the tree streets grow our tax base and contribute to this future.

What is a “healthy neighborhood?”

The definition of what a successful neighborhood looks like will be informed by neighbors, and expected to emerge and evolve over time. The components of a healthy neighborhood will be defined by the priorities of issues impacting health, and will be culturally sensitive and linguistically accessible to those in the neighborhood.

Key components of a healthy neighborhood:

  • Affordable, safe and lead-free housing

  • Access to medical care, healthy food and nutrition education, and safe places to exercise and play

  • Available employment and training

  • Places and ways to nurture social connections and access social supports
