Job Opening: Network Organizer
Overview:
The Network Organizer is the face of Healthy Neighborhoods’ activities, and is responsible for creating a culture of collaboration, initiative, and inclusion that permeates our work. The Organizer is responsible for moving processes and projects forward through regular communication with our large Network of engaged community members and leaders. Communication - written, verbal, and nonverbal; digital and in-person - is the key function of this role. Project Management - the ability to move projects along through planning, collaboration, and time management - is also key. The person in this role must be able to collaborate with many different types of people and organizations, while also working effectively independently.
Compensation and hours:
This is a 30 hours/week position paying $20 - $22/hr, commensurate with experience, with room for growth in both hours and pay. While Healthy Neighborhoods cannot offer direct healthcare coverage, you will receive a monthly stipend to help offset insurance costs and we will provide support navigating the health insurance marketplace to ensure you have adequate coverage.

Key activities and responsibilities:
Organize and lead a diverse group of Lewiston residents, organizations, and businesses to create positive activity, collaboration, and resident-led change in our community.
Build and nurture relationships with Lewiston stakeholders to cultivate a diverse and representative coalition to advocate for the needs of Lewiston’s downtown community, with a special focus on engaging residents of downtown Lewiston to speak to their own needs.
Organize and facilitate regular meetings of the Healthy Neighborhoods Network that are accessible, productive, and build community ownership of and excitement around the Network’s efforts.
Organize and facilitate regular community events such as spring clean-ups, block parties, resource giveaways, civic engagement opportunities, and other acts of collective community care and community-building.
Organize and steward Committees of Network Members and Board Members to move forward specific areas of our work, like Event Planning Committees and Committees focused on specific strategic objectives and activities.
Communicate regularly with the Healthy Neighborhoods Network through email, our monthly newsletter, and in-person events to spread information about our work, partners’ work, and opportunities for others to become involved with Healthy Neighborhoods’ activities.
Core competencies and skills:
Communications, written and verbal. You must be able to communicate clearly, succinctly, and with calls to action that keep work moving forward. Written materials are often rapid-response and must be developed quickly. The most common forms of communication in this role are:
Email communications to individuals and groups, especially volunteers, that make expectations, next steps, and deadlines clear.
Digital communications, specifically website content development & management (Squarespace), email marketing / newsletter (Mailchimp), and social media (Facebook).
Verbal communication: meeting facilitation; presenting our work to others; engaging community members in one-on-one and small-group conversations about their dreams for this community.
Grant writing
Meeting materials: agendas, minutes, collateral (slides, etc)
Survey design
Basic graphic design (partner banners, newsletter graphics, etc)
Community outreach, volunteer management, and collaboration. Healthy Neighborhoods relies on a small staff and a large network of volunteers. This role involves growing and leading that base of volunteers to see projects and events through to completion. This requires a fundamental orientation towards collaborative work.
Self-motivation, organization, time management, and project management. You are the accountability partner for the volunteers who make up the Network. The Organizer’s role is to manage multiple projects at once, making sure volunteers have the direction and materials they need to keep things moving forward. The Organizer is responsible for understanding the overall timeline of tasks and keeping projects running smoothly.
Event planning, coordination, and management. You’ll lead a group of partners and volunteers to plan and execute community events. Events are large collaborations often involving 5-10 planning partners, dozens of volunteers, and hundreds of attendees.
Love of Lewiston and connection to this community. Priority will be given to Lewiston residents, especially current or former residents of the downtown.

About Healthy Neighborhoods:
Healthy Neighborhoods is a community collaborative of residents, nonprofit organizations, businesses and other stakeholders who love Lewiston’s Tree Streets neighborhood. We work together to engage neighborhood residents and elevate their voices, build community leaders, create community connections, and build a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and thriving neighborhood for all. Our primary activities include planning and executing community-building events, fostering civic engagement, distributing Mini-Grants for neighborhood projects, and holding regular Network Meetings that bring Tree Streets stakeholders together to connect, discuss happenings in the community, and develop projects and initiatives that continue to make the Tree Streets a wonderful place to live.
