Spring Bulky Waste Clean-Up

  • The Tree Streets See map for details! Lewiston, ME 04240 United States (map)

We’re exchanging garbage for gardens in the Tree Streets at this two-day bulky waste bonanza!

WHAT:

A free, volunteer-driven bulky waste pick-up in Lewiston’s downtown. See map for more details about eligible areas.

HOW:

Place bulky waste in front of your house (not on the street, sidewalk, or driveway) starting at 6:00pm on Thursday, May 12 and we’ll roll through with volunteers to pick it up starting on Friday, May 13 at 8:00am and ending on Saturday, May 14 at 10:30am.

WHERE:

We’re shutting down Bartlett Street between Walnut and Pine to create a downtown transfer station! Come on over to learn how to sort your trash, why waste management matters for public health, what you can and can’t recycle, and…

GARDEN FOR GARBAGE BONUS:

We’ll be distributing free flowering plants on Bartlett Street to thank you for ditching your bulky waste and helping us clean up the neighborhood! Come by to learn about native plants and pick up your free garden seedlings.

WHY:

Bulky waste is hard to manage in the downtown! Many residents don’t have access to transportation to get to the transfer station on River Road, and the City doesn’t provide pick-up for bulky items. Bulky items can create fire hazards, exacerbate pest issues, and can result in fines and disposal fees for owners and lease violations for renters. We love our neighborhood and are proud to live here - so we’re creating this two-day opportunity to fill this gap in resources and make it easy for all residents to make our Tree Streets safer, cleaner, and healthier.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

  • Volunteer! We need help filling trailers and bringing waste to our downtown transfer station. This is a great opportunity to connect with your neighbors over a shared act of care, and model neighborhood stewardship for your family and neighbors. Individuals and workplace teams are all welcome!

  • Donate! We need to raise $5,000 to cover trash disposal costs, vehicle rentals, and more. If you love our neighborhood and want to see it clean and healthy, please consider making a donation to support this community event.

  • Spread the word! Do you know others who may want to volunteer or donate? People who will benefit from this event and should know about it? Help us get the word out so we can rally enough volunteers, raise enough money, and pick up enough bulky waste to make a lasting impact!
