Homeless Vigil

Join New Beginnings for this Lewiston-Auburn Vigil, part of a national movement of cities marking National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day on or near the winter solstice, the first day of winter and the longest night of the year. This vigil is to honor people who have died while homeless during the past year and to raise awareness about homelessness.

This year, supporters will gather again along the snowy sidewalks of Main St. in Lewiston under the HOPEFUL sign. With handmade signs, electronic candles, and flashlights in hand supporters will raise awareness for the homeless that passed in 2021 and for those who might face homelessness in 2022.

Names of those who passed away while homeless this year should be submitted to nicole@newbeginmaine.org to be added to a poster/visual memorial that will be located at the roadside near the “Hopeful” sign.
