"Name that Park" Contest Open for Submissions

  • City Hall Lewiston, ME (map)

“Name That Park!” The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is facilitating a naming contest for the newly established municipal athletic park on Bartlett Street in Lewiston.

How can I enter?

LYAC c/o Administration

Lewiston City Hall

27 Pine Street

Lewiston, ME 04240

Or by email to dottie@lewistonmaine.gov.

What information do I need to provide?

The contest form requires a proposed name along with a brief narrative explaining why that name proposal should be selected. Help us understand why you love this name for the park!

How long do I have?

The contest is accepting entries until December 16, 2021.

Why a contest?

Keira Potvin, LYAC Vice-Chair who presented the project to the City Council, stated “The naming contest enables the community to be engaged and hopefully enthusiastic about this new athletic offering in Lewiston.”

LYAC member Nafisa Tasnia added, “The park naming contest provides an opportunity to make a bit of history here in Lewiston.”

What happens next?

Submissions will be reviewed by Lewiston staff and LYAC. Should there be multiple exemplary submissions, the “top 3” entries will be interviewed to select a final name, which is subject to Lewiston City Council approval. Following the park contest, LYAC will seek a monetary sponsor for the naming of the park’s field/sledding hill.

What’s this new park all about?

This new park is part of a larger project to transform the Bartlett Street hill area into a recreational space, which includes expanding the existing trails to add a sledding hill, a new municipal athletic field, and mountain bike trails!
