Trinity Jubilee Walkway Restoration Funded by Mini-Grant

Trinity Jubilee Center’s programs help people overcome hunger and homelessness by providing hot meals, healthy groceries, diapers, and shelter as well as help with resume-writing, job applications, housing searches, and the many other challenges people face as they get back on their feet. Everyone is welcome.

A Healthy Neighborhoods Mini-Grant funded improvements to the Center's courtyard. The walkway into the facility was crumbling and people with wheelchairs, walkers, carts, and strollers had a difficult time getting into the building and the meals, groceries, diapers, medical attention, and other resources offered inside. Replacing the walkway ensures that they will have equal access to the services at the Trinity Jubilee Center. The project was completed in one day but it will have a positive impact on everyone who comes to the Center for years to come.

A landscaping company was hired to remove the old walkway, improve drainage in the yard, and install a new walkway. In addition to this major project, flowers were planted in the yard and a new smoking area was designated.

The Center’s courtyard is how people enter the facility and its physical condition tells people a lot about what they can expect inside. These improvements showed people that this is a space that is taken care of, respected, and welcoming and told people that this is how they would be treated and how they would be expected to treat other people. It created a much better first impression than before, when the courtyard was defined by broken paving stones, mud, trash, puddles, and cigarette butts.

Guests can now see immediately that this is a warm space that people take pride in. Many volunteers who come to the Center have not spent much time in downtown Lewiston and the improved condition of the courtyard greets them with a statement of cleanliness and dignity that dispels the rumors and stereotypes they have heard.

This project would not have been possible without the Healthy Neighborhoods mini grant.
